FAQ
Do I need good credit?
No. Most of our applicants have fair, poor, or no credit. Dealers in our network specialize in rent-to-own and look at the whole picture — income, employment, and housing — not just a credit score.
Will applying hurt my credit?
We don't pull your credit when you apply. The dealer who contacts you decides whether to run a credit check (soft or hard) before signing — they'll let you know.
Why does accurate info matter so much?
Dealers approve applications fast when the info you provide — name, address, income, employment, housing — is accurate. Misleading or wrong info will delay or disqualify your approval, so please double-check before submitting.
How much is the down payment?
It varies by dealer and mower, but most programs start at $0–$200 down. Larger down payments often unlock lower monthly rates.
Do I actually own the mower?
Yes. Once you complete the rental term you own it outright. Many dealers also offer early-payoff discounts.
What if I miss a payment?
Each dealer has their own policy. Most offer grace periods and will work with you. Always read the agreement carefully before signing.
How fast can I get the mower?
Most dealers respond within 24 hours and can have you mowing within a few days, often the same week.
Is there a fee to apply?
Never. Applying through RentToOwnMowers.com is completely free with no obligation.
What do I need to apply?
A valid ID, working phone and email, proof of income (pay stub, bank deposit, or benefits letter), and a delivery address in a covered ZIP. The application takes about 2 minutes.
Do I need a bank account?
Most dealers require an active checking account or debit card for payments. A few accept prepaid cards or cash — ask the dealer who contacts you.
Can I apply if I'm self-employed or paid in cash?
Yes. Have 2–3 months of bank statements or a recent 1099 ready so the dealer can verify income.
Is there a minimum income?
Most dealers want to see roughly 3× the monthly payment in verifiable income, but each dealer sets their own threshold.
Can I apply if I rent my home?
Yes. Renters are approved every day — you'll just need your landlord's name and phone number.
What's the minimum age to apply?
18 in most states, 19 in Alabama and Nebraska, and 21 in Mississippi.
What types of mowers can I rent to own?
Push mowers, self-propelled walk-behinds, riding tractors, and zero-turns from major brands like John Deere, Husqvarna, Cub Cadet, Toro, Bad Boy, and Ariens — depending on your local dealer's inventory.
Are the mowers new or used?
Both. Most dealers stock brand-new units, and some also offer certified pre-owned mowers at a lower payment.
Is delivery included?
Most dealers deliver free within their service area. Longer distances may carry a small fee, which the dealer confirms before you sign.
Who handles maintenance and repairs?
Most agreements include the manufacturer warranty plus dealer service during the rental period. You're responsible for routine care like oil, blades, and fuel.
What happens if the mower breaks?
Contact your dealer first. Warranty and rental-period service typically cover mechanical failures that aren't caused by misuse.
How long are the rental terms?
Typically 12, 18, 24, or 36 months. Shorter terms mean higher payments but a lower total cost.
Can I pay weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly?
Yes — most dealers offer all three schedules. Weekly plans usually start at the lowest payment.
Can I pay it off early?
Yes. Most dealers offer an early-purchase discount — often 30–50% off the remaining balance — within the first 90 days.
Are there late fees?
Each dealer sets their own. Most offer a 3–10 day grace period before a late fee applies.
Will rent-to-own help build my credit?
Some dealers report payments to a credit bureau and some don't. Ask the dealer directly if credit-building matters to you.
What's the total cost compared to buying outright?
Rent-to-own typically costs more than paying cash. The trade-off is no large up-front payment, no traditional financing, and built-in service during the rental.
Can I return the mower if I change my mind?
Yes. Rent-to-own agreements let you return the mower at any time with no further obligation beyond payments already made.
What if I move during the rental?
Contact your dealer. Most allow you to keep the mower and continue payments; some require the new address to stay within their service area.
What states do you serve?
All 50 states, subject to dealer coverage in your ZIP. Browse our state directory to see programs near you.
Who is the dealer I'll work with?
A vetted local rent-to-own dealer in your ZIP. They handle approval, delivery, payments, and service directly.
Is RentToOwnMowers.com the lender?
No. We're a free lead-referral service that matches you with an independent dealer. The dealer owns the agreement, sets pricing, and handles the program.
